Deputy Governorship:Kano APC Stakeholders Nominate Garo

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Legacy Group in Kano State have reportedly nominated Murtala Sule Garo to become the new Deputy Governor of the state.
The nomination followed the recent resignation of Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo who did not defect to the APC alongside Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
A statement issued on Sunday by Magaji Umar Gwammaja, a prominent member of the APC Legacy Group, said the decision came after an intense meeting of the stakeholders that lasted up to the early hours of Sunday.
According to Gwammaja,the stakeholders presented a list of three nominees to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the position of Deputy Governor, namely Murtala Sule Garo, Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi and Kabiru Alhassan Rurum.
He said the submission of the list came after intense discussion on the capabilities and experience of each of the candidates, following which the Stakeholders reportedly settled for Murtala Sule Garo, a former Local Government Chairman, former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs and also Chairman of the state’s chapter of ALGON.
The pedigree of Rabi’u Suleiman Bichi was also discussed as former Managing Director of the Urban Development Bank of Nigeria (UDBN),former Managing Director of the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA), former Commissioner and Secretary to the State Government,and presently the Managing Director of the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority.
While Alhassan Rurum has extensive legislative background, having served three terms in the Kano State House of Assembly representing Rano Constituency, including a tenure as Speaker.
He is currently serving his second term in the House of Representatives, representing Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituency.
Having been nominated by the stakeholders, the statement said further, Garo would now undergo security screening and profiling by the relevant agencies in Abuja for clearance.
Upon completion of the process, Governor Yusuf is expected to consult with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu before forwarding the nominee to the Kano State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation, in line with the constitutional provisions.
