The Yobe State chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) staged a street walk on Tuesday, calling for greater inclusion in government and political processes across the state.
Lead by Yawudima Barma Yusufari demonstration kicked off at the August 27th Stadium and concluded at the entrance of the Government House in Damaturu.
Speaking on behalf of the group,the Chairman JONAPWD,Yobe state Chapter,Yawudima Barma Yusufari outlined their demands, which include unrestricted participation in politics ranging from State House of Assembly seats and council chairman positions to other political appointments.
In addition to political representation, the association called for equal employment opportunities, the right to work without discrimination, and the complete enforcement of the National Disability Act of 2018.
Despite their grievances, the protesters took a moment to commend Governor Mai Mala Buni for his administration’s decision to establish the Yobe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, an initiative they described as a step in the right direction.
