Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has announced a donation of N10 million to the state para athletes team and officials who participated in the just-concluded 3rd Edition of the National Para Games competition held in Abuja.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, said the Governor made the donation while playing host to the athletes’ representatives at the Government House, Katsina.
Governor Radda applauded the athletes for their performance and pledged to continue investing in sports development.
“You have made this state proud at the national level. Your achievement is Katsina’s achievement,” the Governor said.
He described sport as a powerful tool for national development and unity, assuring that Katsina would continue to support Para athletes and other sporting activities in the state.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Engineer, Yazid Abukur, revealed that the state competed in various disciplines including Para Soccer, Para Shooting, Para Cycling, Para Athletics, and Para Powerlifting.
“Throughout the games, our contingent displayed not only excellence but also exemplary conduct and represented Katsina with honour and dignity,” Engineer Abukur said.
The Commissioner disclosed that an 18-year-old Para cyclist from Katsina, Hamza Abdulmumini, has been invited to the National camp to represent Nigeria at the upcoming All African Games.
“Five Para soccer players from the state were also selected into the National Para Soccer team,” Engineer Abukur added.
He attributed the state’s success at the Games to the support and investment in sports by Governor Radda.
Engineer Abukur appealed to the state government to provide appropriate incentives as motivation to deserving athletes and their officials.
“We also call for the recruitment of additional coaches and organizing secretaries to strengthen our technical capacity,” the Commissioner added.
