From Umar Dankano, Yola
A chieftain and governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the forthcoming 2027 election, Chief Maurice Vonobolki has resigned his membership of the party due to alleged injustice, imposition and unfairness.
Chief Vunobolki announced his stand at a press conference in Yola Tuesday lamenting that despite the assurances of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and the committee set up to produce framework for the ongoing party Congresses, there was not fairness and internal democracy.
Vunobolki explained that the decision was arrived at after thorough and wide consultations with the stakeholders and supporters in the interest of Adamawa people noting such impunity force him and supporters across the 21 local government areas moved out of the People’s Democratic party, PDP on the 23rd of March.2026 to joined APC.
“This decision was taken in good faith, it
has become clear over time that these assurances are no longer being upheld. Developments both on the part of the state government and Abuja politicians indicate a departure from the agreed principles.
“The committee recently set up by the Governor to produce the framework for the upcoming party congresses in the state had the government favoured aspirants for certain elective political offices and these favoured aspirants had clinically manipulated the framework to favour their chances in the build up to party primaries, and this reflect a process that lacks inclusiveness, transparency, and fairness.
“Recent actions within the party and the Adamawa State government circle further reinforced these concerns. There are credible and evidential indications of irregular membership registrations; using people’s NIN without their consent, aimed at having a large membership voting population in Yola North and coordinated efforts to influence internal processes unfairly.
“While assurances were initially given that all aspirants would be granted a level playing field to participate in the direct primary process as contained in the New Electoral Act as amended, current realities suggest otherwise.
“As a long-standing participant in Nigeria’s political space, I recognize the signs of a system that is tilting toward imposition rather than democratic choice. There is a growing likelihood that decisions will be made through manipulated consensus rather than through a transparent and credible process.
“In light of these developments, and after extensive consultations with stakeholders across the state, I hereby announce my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective Tuesday, 14th April 2026.
“This decision is necessary to allow us to pursue a more credible and democratic platform. We remain committed to protecting the political will and mandate of the people, which must never be compromised.
“I call on all my supporters across the 21 LGAs of the Adamawa State to also withdraw their membership from the APC and await further guidance on our next steps.
“Let me reaffirm, that true leadership and promotion come from God. Political power must be rooted in the will of the people, not imposed through manipulation.
“History has shown that being in a ruling party does not guarantee electoral victory, especially where justice and fairness are absent.Democracy can only thrive where internal democracy is respected.
“I urge all aspirants who believe in the principles of a transparent process to make hay while the sun still shines, for the progress of our state and citizens”. Vunobolki declared.
Recall that the All Progressives Congress APC in Adamawa state has been facing internal crisis over the struggle for the soul of the party between National Security Adviser, Mal Nuhu Ribadu and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri since the later entrance in to the ruling party, APC in the state
