Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have neutralised two suspected armed gunmen during a coordinated ambush in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation, according to a statement issued by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, said it was carried out on Tuesday evening, April 21, 2026, targeted criminal elements operating around the Marit axis of the LGA.
Military sources said the ambush was launched following credible intelligence on the movement of gunmen accused of terrorising communities through attacks, sexual violence, and armed robbery.
According to the military, troops engaged the suspects near Doruwa Babuje at about 7:49 p.m., leading to a gun battle in which two of the assailants were killed, while others escaped into nearby bushes under the cover of darkness.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of a locally fabricated rifle, five rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, a cutlass, a jackknife, and a mobile phone.
Troops have since maintained their presence in Marit and neighbouring Lajam villages to prevent further attacks and reassure residents. Security forces say efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Operation ENDURING PEACE reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
