Jigawa Govt Distributes 10,000 Stoves To Residents To Combat Deforestation

The Jigawa State Government has launched the distribution of 10,000 cooking stoves free to residents as part of its efforts to combat deforestation and climate change.
The state Commissioner for Power and Energy, Malam Surajo Musa, announced this during the graduation ceremony of youths trained in stove production by an organization in Baranda town.
Musa explained that the initiative is part of the government’s measures to curb desert encroachment and protect the environment.
He also disclosed that the government had already converted some operations of ministries and agencies, as well as street lighting in the headquarters of 11 local government areas, to solar energy.
In addition, he said,small-scale power stations have been provided in rural communities and Tsangaya schools.
In his remarks, the Director of the Elip Pace Initiative, Malam Isa Mustapha, stated that youths were selected from various local government areas and trained in charcoal processing and stove production to help reduce environmental pollution.
