The Sarkin Yoruba of Kano, Dr. Alhaji Murtala Alimi Ote-Sese, has sustained his support to members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kano State chapter, by donating additional funds to assist them in their academic pursuit.
He recently paid a sum of ₦240,000 to cover outstanding school fees for three SWAN members in the state.
The beneficiaries are currently 300-level students at the College of Islamic and Legal Studies, affiliated to the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma.
It could be recalled that, the Sarkin Yoruba of Kano had earlier donated ₦250,000 as scholarships to the students upon gaining admission in 2024 to further their studies.
Dr. Alimi stated that the gesture is part of his community service, with the main objective of supporting education and providing opportunities for youths, especially SWAN members, to advance their studies in journalism and related fields.
The prominent Kano-based businessman described the assistance as part of his commitment to giving back to the society.
In his remarks, the former chairman of the association and current National Ex-Officio, Lurwanu Idris Malikawa Garu (Dagacin Malikawa), expressed appreciation for the gesture by the SWAN patron.
Malikawa called on wealthy individuals in the society to emulate Dr. Alimi’s example in promoting community development.
He also urged the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors by putting in their best efforts to graduate with flying colours.
Similarly, the Chairman of SWAN, Kano State chapter, Zahradeen Saleh, commended the Sarkin Yoruba for his continued support to the members in pursuing their education.
He assured that the association remains proud of the contributions received from Dr. Alimi.
