The Kano Network of NGOs (KANET) has hosted the League for Societal Protection Against Drug Abuse (LESPADA) on a courtesy visit led by its leader, Hajia Ambassador Maryam Hassan.
During the visit, LESPADA formally congratulated the newly inaugurated leadership of KANET, commending the Network’s role in coordinating civil society efforts across Kano State.
KANET’s Chairman Barr. Nura Ahmad Muhammad, in his remarks, lauded LESPADA for its sustained advocacy against drug and substance abuse across Northern Nigeria, describing the organization’s interventions as timely and impactful in addressing one of the region’s pressing social challenges.
Barr. Nura also acknowledged LESPADA’s ongoing push for the establishment of a Drug and Substance Abuse Management Agency in Kano State through a bill currently before the Kano State House of Assembly.
He pledged KANET’s full support for the proposed legislation, emphasizing the need for institutional frameworks to effectively tackle drug abuse and its associated societal consequences.
The Network further expressed appreciation to LESPADA for the donation of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, noting that the resources would enhance public awareness campaigns and strengthen community engagement on the dangers of drug abuse.
