Critical stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Yobe State have unanimously endorsed former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, as the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement followed statewide consultations conducted by party leaders in preparation for the ADC presidential primary scheduled for May 25 and 26, 2026.
This was contained in a press statement jointly signed by the state party leader, Adamu Maina Waziri, the state chairman, Alhaji Umar Kalli, and gubernatorial aspirant, Kasiim Gana Gaidam.
According to the stakeholders, the decision was reached after a careful assessment of the presidential aspirants, their individual capacities, national acceptability, and ability to challenge the candidate of the ruling party.
The statement noted that Atiku’s aspiration was unanimously endorsed based on what the stakeholders described as his proven track record in public service, national political spread, and leadership experience.
They said the former vice president had demonstrated commitment to national development through decades of service in both the public and private sectors, adding that his experience in governance and economic management positions him to tackle Nigeria’s socio-economic and security challenges.
The stakeholders further stated that Atiku enjoys support across the six geopolitical zones of the country, describing him as “the most unifying and electable candidate at this critical time.”
The Yobe ADC chapter also called on party members nationwide to rally behind the former vice president ahead of the party’s primary election.
According to the statement, the task before the ADC is to defeat an incumbent administration accused of intolerance and the alleged capture of public institutions.
The stakeholders maintained that Atiku Abubakar remains the most competent candidate capable of providing the leadership needed to address the nation’s current challenges.
