The second-term Charles Soludo administration’s Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has held its maiden meeting, announcing key decisions aimed at strengthening governance and enforcing cashless tax collection across the state.
The meeting, held on May 25 at the Light House in Awka, focused on improving teamwork within the executive council and addressing concerns over illegal cash tax collections.
According to a statement issued by the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, the council approved a retreat for members of the executive council as part of efforts to build cohesion and ensure all appointees clearly understand their responsibilities.
The statement noted that the retreat, scheduled to hold within the week in Anambra State, is designed to strengthen collaboration among council members and align them with the administration’s second-term objectives.
ANSEC also reiterated the state government’s ban on cash collection for tax payments, warning that violators would face severe sanctions.
The council expressed concern over reports that some individuals were still collecting taxes in cash despite the existing directive on cashless payments.
“The council once again noted that cash collection for tax payment remains prohibited in the state and that defaulters will henceforth face harsh penalties,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Governor Soludo received awards from the West African College of Nurses and the African University of Science and Technology in recognition of his administration’s achievements in healthcare and digital innovation.
The West African College of Nurses honoured the governor for employing over 1,350 nurses — described as the highest number employed by any governor in Nigeria — and for implementing the current salary scale for nurses in the state.
Similarly, the African University of Science and Technology commended the governor for promoting digital skills acquisition among residents, with over 260,000 people reportedly trained, as well as for converting the former Government House into a technology hub and innovation district.
