A former State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governorship aspirant, Pharm. Wafarninyi Theman, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the 2027 general elections in Adamawa State.
The party’s primary election, conducted peacefully on Saturday, was supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies. Delegates from the 21 local government areas of the state participated in the exercise.
At the same event, new state executive members of the party were elected through a consensus process described by stakeholders as transparent, inclusive, and widely acceptable.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Vidiyeno Bamaiyi, said the emergence of the new leadership followed extensive consultations aimed at repositioning the party for greater electoral success.
He noted that the development marked a new chapter for the YPP in Adamawa State, expressing confidence that the party now has a united leadership and a credible governorship candidate who understands the challenges confronting the people.
In his acceptance speech, Pharm. Theman pledged to focus on infrastructure development, youth empowerment, job creation, and accountable governance if elected governor.
According to him, Adamawa deserves leadership that delivers tangible results and improves the welfare of its citizens.
“We will prioritise road construction, agriculture, and education because they are the foundations of sustainable development,” he said.
Party members described the congress as peaceful and well-organised, while stakeholders expressed optimism that the newly elected executives and governorship candidate would strengthen the party’s structure and expand its support base across the state.
The YPP leadership said it would commence statewide consultations and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging members and supporters to remain committed and work diligently toward securing victory for the party in all elective positions.
