The Kano State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani, has assured the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano State chapter, of the ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the association in promoting the welfare, empowerment and development of women across the state.
The commissioner gave the assurance while receiving members of the association on a courtesy visit to her office in Kano.
Hajiya Amina stressed the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing the rights and well-being of women, children and persons with special needs, describing the media as a critical stakeholder in driving positive social change.
She called on journalists to intensify publicity for the ministry’s programmes and activities, noting that many of its interventions are directly impacting the lives of vulnerable groups across Kano State.
According to her, increased media coverage would help create greater public awareness of the ministry’s initiatives and encourage more beneficiaries to take advantage of available opportunities.
The commissioner also commended the active participation of women in the electoral process, observing that women constitute a significant percentage of the electorate and continue to play a vital role in strengthening democracy, promoting good governance and contributing to societal development.
Speaking on behalf of the visiting journalists, veteran media practitioners Hajiya Maryam Babayaro and Hajiya Gambo Mustapha lauded the ministry’s efforts in improving the lives of women, children and persons with special needs across the state.
They appealed to the commissioner to ensure that members of NAWOJ are considered among beneficiaries of the ministry’s empowerment programmes, noting that many female journalists could also benefit from capacity-building and economic empowerment initiatives.
Also speaking, the Director of Women Affairs Department, Hajiya Bilkisu Shafi’u Jibrin, commended the commissioner for introducing numerous people-oriented programmes since assuming office.
She expressed confidence that the ministry’s ongoing initiatives would continue to improve the socio-economic well-being of women and other vulnerable groups in the state.
