The Yobe State Government has distributed teaching and learning materials worth millions of naira to pupils in primary schools across the state as part of efforts to improve the quality of basic education.
It could be recalled that Governor Mai Mala Buni declared a state of emergency in the education sector shortly after assuming office, with the aim of laying a solid foundation for future generations.
According to the governor, education remains the bedrock of meaningful development and a critical tool for advancing the socio-economic growth of any society or nation.
Governor Buni made the declaration during his inaugural address at the Government House in Damaturu, stating:
“I hereby declare a state of emergency on primary and secondary education in Yobe State. This will enable the government to build a solid and robust foundation for the advancement of education in the state.”
In line with this commitment, the Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), flagged off the distribution of teaching and learning materials under the 2024–2025 UBEC/SUBEB intervention programme in Damaturu, the state capital.
The programme was themed: “Empowering the Future: Equipping Every Child for Academic Excellence and Sustainable Development.”
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Abba Adam Idris, urged the 17 Education Secretaries across the state’s local government areas to ensure the judicious use of the materials for the benefit of pupils and teachers.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of the Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Hassan Umar Babayo, commended the state government for its sustained efforts toward revitalising the basic education sector.
Babayo further called on all stakeholders to support the programmes and policies of the Yobe State Government aimed at strengthening and transforming basic education across the state.
