Kamo State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has suspended the Managing Director of the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA), Arc. Hauwa Hassan Tudun-Wada, as part of a sweeping effort to address alleged irregularities in the administration of town planning and physical development across the state.
The suspension comes amid the Kano State Government’s intensified campaign against illegal structures, unauthorized land-use conversions and other violations of urban planning regulations in various parts of Kano metropolis.
Although the government has yet to release detailed allegations against the suspended KNUPDA chief, the move is widely seen as part of broader reforms aimed at restoring order, accountability and compliance within the state’s physical planning sector.
In recent weeks, authorities have stepped up enforcement actions against buildings and developments found to be in breach of approved planning standards, warning that violations would no longer be tolerated.
The administration has maintained that the crackdown is necessary to ensure sustainable urban development, improve environmental standards and protect public infrastructure from unregulated expansion.
Officials say further measures may be announced as the government continues its review of activities within agencies responsible for urban planning and development across Kano State.
