Popular political musician Dauda Kahutu Rarara has accused former Kano State Governor and leader of Kwankwasiyya movement Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of playing a role in creating some of the challenges currently facing Nigeria.
Rarara made the allegation during an interview with SL Update, where he said that many of the economic and administrative problems affecting the country today stem from policies and decisions taken in the past.
According to him, one of the major issues was the withholding of local government funds by higher levels of government instead of allowing local councils full control over their finances to carry out grassroots development projects.
“Local government funds are the lifeline of the people. They are what bring government services closer to ordinary citizens at the grassroots level. When those funds are withheld or controlled elsewhere, essential services meant for the people are affected,” he said.
The musician argued that the country’s current difficulties began when this practice was introduced, adding that its effects are still being felt across various sectors of the nation.
He claimed that the lack of financial autonomy for local governments has slowed down development efforts, particularly in key sectors such as education, healthcare, water supply, and rural infrastructure.
Rarara further stated that if Nigeria is to achieve sustainable development and economic growth, local governments must be granted full authority to manage their affairs and resources without interference.
His remarks come amid ongoing debates over local government autonomy and calls for reforms to ensure that local councils have direct access to their allocations and greater independence in governance.
As of the time of filing this report, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso or any of his representatives had not issued any response to the allegations made by Rarara.
