As part of preparations for the official take-off of the Mai Mala Buni College of Integrated Science, Damaturu, the Steering Committee for the establishment of the institution has commenced the screening of teachers to ensure that only qualified, competent, and dedicated professionals are deployed to the College.
The Chairman of the Steering Committee and Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Abba Idris Adam, said the exercise is aimed at identifying and selecting the most qualified teachers capable of delivering quality science and integrated education in line with the vision of Governor Mai Mala Buni to transform the education sector in Yobe State.
Prof. Abba Idris Adam disclosed that a total of 92 teachers drawn from the Teaching Service Board (TSB), State Science and Technical Schools Board (STSB), and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state are participating in the screening exercise, which is being conducted at the Government Girls Unity College (GGUC), Damaturu.
According to the Commissioner, the screening exercise is designed to evaluate participants’ competence in critical areas, including pedagogy, classroom management, teaching methodology, and basic education, to ensure that only the most capable candidates are selected to pioneer academic activities at the College.
He noted that the establishment of the Mai Mala Buni College of Integrated Science underscores Governor Mai Mala Buni’s unwavering commitment to repositioning education through strategic investment in science, technology, and innovation. He added that the College is expected to provide a solid foundation for nurturing the next generation of scientists, innovators, researchers, and technology-driven professionals who will contribute to the socio-economic development of Yobe State and Nigeria.
Prof. Abba Idris Adam reaffirmed the Steering Committee’s commitment to conducting a transparent, merit-based, fair, and credible selection process that will produce a highly skilled and motivated teaching workforce for the successful commencement of academic activities at the institution.
The screening exercise is expected to produce a competent educators who will play a pivotal role in realizing the vision of making the Mai Mala Buni College of Integrated Science, Damaturu, a centre of excellence for science and integrated education in Yobe State.
