The Tax Justice and Governance Platform (TJ&GP) has congratulated the outgoing Executive Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), Dr. Zaid Abubakar, on the successful completion of his tenure.
The platform described his stewardship as a period marked by institutional reforms, constructive stakeholder engagement, and sustained efforts to strengthen tax administration in Kano State.
The congratulatory message was conveyed by the Program Lead of the Tax Justice and Governance Platform in Kano, Sadiq Muhammad Mustapha, in a press statement personally signed by him.
Mustapha commended Dr. Abubakar for providing leadership that encouraged collaboration between KIRS and civil society organizations, particularly in advancing transparency, accountability, and taxpayer-centered reforms in the state’s revenue administration.
He noted that throughout Dr. Abubakar’s tenure, the relationship between TJ&GP and KIRS remained cordial and productive, resulting in several engagements aimed at promoting tax justice and improving public confidence in the tax system.
These engagements included policy dialogues, stakeholder consultations, advocacy for improved grievance redress mechanisms, taxpayer education, and the promotion of the Tax-for-Service principle, which emphasizes the effective utilization of tax revenue for the delivery of quality public services.

According to him, the Platform also witnessed the Service’s openness to engaging with non-state actors on issues of tax governance and institutional reforms, a development that strengthened citizens’ participation in conversations around domestic revenue mobilization and accountability.
“The successful completion of Dr. Zaid Abubakar’s tenure represents an important milestone for the Kano State Internal Revenue Service. His commitment to institutional development, professionalism, and reforms has contributed to strengthening the state’s revenue administration and deepening collaboration with critical stakeholders, including civil society organizations,” Mustapha stated.
The Platform also acknowledged the orderly leadership transition at KIRS, describing the formal handover to the Senior Executive Director, Compliance and Enforcement Group, Malam Muhammad Abba Aliyu, as a demonstration of institutional stability, continuity, and good governance.

It expressed confidence that the Service would sustain ongoing reforms and continue to improve internally generated revenue in support of Kano State’s development.
TJ&GP further urged the incoming leadership to consolidate on the achievements recorded over the years by maintaining open engagement with stakeholders, strengthening transparency and accountability mechanisms, and promoting tax policies that are fair, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of taxpayers.
While wishing Dr. Abubakar success in his future endeavors, the Platform reaffirmed its commitment to working with KIRS and other relevant institutions to advance tax justice, strengthen domestic resource mobilization, and promote a tax system that delivers meaningful development dividends for the people of Kano State.
