The Kwankwasiyya-Shekarau Unity Forum has declared its support for Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, ahead of the 2027 general election, while announcing its rebranding as the Abba Gida-Gida–Shekarau Unity Forum.
The announcement was made during a solidarity visit by members of the forum to the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, in his office on Monday.
Chairman of the forum, Ahmed Saminu (DOC), said the group emerged from the merger of APC and PDP political structures in 2023 with the objective of supporting the success of the Kwankwasiyya movement.
According to him, members of the forum remained committed to the movement despite the exit of their political leader, former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau.
He said the group had, until recently, not been adequately integrated into government activities, adding that the intervention of the Commissioner had restored their confidence and strengthened their relationship with the administration.
Saminu said the decision to adopt a new name and publicly endorse Governor Yusuf for a second term was informed by what he described as the administration’s achievements in education, healthcare, security, infrastructure development, youth and women empowerment, and road construction.
He also commended Waiya for promoting the policies and programmes of the state government, which he said had inspired more citizens to identify with the administration.
Responding, Waiya thanked the delegation for its support, describing the members as politicians with a clear vision for the progress of Kano State.
He said their endorsement of Governor Yusuf reflected confidence in the administration’s development agenda and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy.
The commissioner maintained that criticisms from political opponents would not distract the governor from his focus on governance and pledged continued collaboration with the forum ahead of the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, Waiya also received members of the Trusted Youth Awareness for Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi, who paid him a separate courtesy visit to express their support for Governor Yusuf.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the group’s chairman, Farouk Muhammad Dangora, commended the governor for approving the payment of outstanding entitlements to former councillors, describing the move as timely and impactful.
He also praised the administration’s developmental initiatives across various sectors and urged the commissioner to serve as the Grand Patron of the forum while seeking closer collaboration with the ministry in promoting government activities.
In his response, Waiya described Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi as a committed leader dedicated to the development of Kano State, noting that his contributions had positively impacted both his constituency and the state at large.
He assured the delegation that the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs would continue to partner with groups committed to promoting the achievements of the Yusuf administration and advancing public engagement.
