The Katsina State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to rehabilitating a public school recently highlighted on social media over its poor condition, assuring residents that the facility is already included in an ongoing intervention programme to upgrade educational infrastructure across the state.
The government, in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Yusuf Suleiman Jibia, acknowledged public concerns over the learning environment at the school and appreciated citizens for drawing attention to challenges affecting public infrastructure, particularly in the education sector.
According to the statement, the affected school had been identified for rehabilitation before the recent social media post. However, the government said implementation was delayed due to prevailing security challenges in the community, which necessitated prioritising the restoration of peace and the protection of lives and property.
It explained that with many residents displaced and school enrolment significantly reduced at the time, the government’s immediate focus was on restoring security and creating conditions for the safe return of affected communities.
The statement noted that the security situation in the area has improved considerably following sustained efforts by the state government and security agencies, with families gradually returning home and pupils resuming academic activities.
It added that the government is now implementing the next phase of its intervention programme by rehabilitating critical public infrastructure, including educational facilities, to support the restoration of normal social and economic activities.
According to the government, the rehabilitation project will include the renovation of classrooms, replacement of damaged roofs, rehabilitation of floors, provision of furniture, improvement of sanitation facilities and other essential works aimed at providing a safe and conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers.
The government reiterated that the administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda remains committed to revitalising the education sector through sustained investment in infrastructure, teacher development and improved learning facilities.
It said the commitment is reflected in the numerous ongoing and planned projects across the state designed to ensure that every child has access to quality education in a safe environment.
The government also called on communities, parents, school managements and other stakeholders to support the protection and maintenance of public facilities, stressing that the sustainability of infrastructure depends on collective responsibility.
While appreciating the concerns raised by the author of the social media post and other well-meaning citizens, the government assured that rehabilitation of the affected school would commence in line with the implementation schedule of the approved intervention programme.
It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every community benefits from improved security, quality education and sustainable development across Katsina State.
