The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in Zamfara State has set up a statewide Contact and Mobilisation Team and formally rallied behind Senator Kabir Garba Marafa as its governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The decision was taken on Saturday during a State Executive Committee meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Gusau, where leaders said the party is now moving from consolidation to full election mode.
Chairing the meeting, State Chairman Alhaji Surajo Garba Mai Katako said the NDC is banking on unity, grassroots structures and credible candidates to win the governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly seats in 2027.
“With unity, dedication, and effective grassroots mobilisation, the Nigeria Democratic Congress is well positioned to emerge victorious in 2027 and provide purposeful leadership that will address insecurity, promote economic development, and improve the living standards of the people of Zamfara State,” Mai Katako told members.
He described Senator Marafa, OFR, CON, as a leader known for integrity, courage, accountability and commitment to justice and the welfare of Zamfara people. The endorsement drew strong support from SEC members across the state’s three senatorial zones.
In his report, State Secretary Comrade Bashir Muhammad Mafara said the NDC has expanded its presence in all 14 local government areas since inauguration. He noted that the party has been strengthening its organisational capacity at ward and LGA levels.
Members deliberated on administration, mobilisation and electoral strategy, and adopted several resolutions to sharpen the party’s preparations.
The key resolution was the approval of a State Contact and Mobilisation Team. The committee will coordinate grassroots engagement with political stakeholders, traditional and religious leaders, business communities, youth and women groups, professionals, and other influencers. It will also drive public awareness of the party’s programmes and promote inclusive participation.
The party said the names, responsibilities and operational framework of the committee will be announced in due course.
In his opening remarks, Mai Katako prayed for lasting peace and improved security across Zamfara and Nigeria, saying sustainable peace is critical for development. He commended party officials for their loyalty and sacrifices, and urged them to remain focused.
The meeting, attended by State Vice Chairman Hon. Atiku Durbi, Zonal Vice Chairmen Hon. Abubakar Usman Gora, Zamfara Central, Hon. Auwal Garba Alhazzai, Zamfara North, and Hon. Ishaqa Kagara, Zamfara West, and other SEC members, ended with prayers for peace, unity and prosperity in Zamfara and Nigeria.
