…Says it can Transform Societies

Kano State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, has called on politicians, philanthropists and other well-meaning individuals to invest more in education, saying such support can transform society and the nation at large.
Garo made the call on Saturday at the graduation ceremony of 850 students of the Community College of Education, Kano, sponsored by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau and held at the School of Arabic Studies (SAS), Kano.
The Deputy Governor said the ceremony was not merely about the presentation of certificates but a demonstration of the importance of education, particularly in empowering women.
He congratulated the graduates, popularly known as “Ya’yan Mallam,” and reaffirmed the commitment of the Kano State Government to improving the standard of education in the state, noting that the priority given to the sector was also reflected in the state’s budget.
Garo stressed the importance of educating women, saying, “When you educate a woman, you educate a nation.”
He urged the graduates to become good ambassadors of the institution and commended Senator Shekarau for supporting the education of the beneficiaries.
The Deputy Governor also said he would convey the outcome of the programme to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and advise him to consider the employment of the graduates.
He linked the proposal to the recent recruitment of more than 6,000 teachers by the state government, describing it as a historic development.
Also speaking, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau appreciated Deputy Governor Garo and other dignitaries for attending the ceremony.
Shekarau said the institution was established through the initiative of a Da’awa group known as “Wa’azu Wal Ihsan” and had been operational for the past four to five years.
He commended the Deputy Governor for indicating his intention to present the graduates’ employment request to Governor Yusuf, stressing the importance of teachers to the education system.
“Without teachers, classrooms cannot function effectively,” he said.
Shekarau also commended the management of the Community College of Education, Kano, under the leadership of Muhammad Adam, and the parents for supporting the students, particularly the female graduates.
He urged the graduates to be good ambassadors of the institution and appealed to the Kano State Government to provide a permanent site for the school to enable it expand its activities.
The ceremony was attended by the Chief Imam of Kano State, Professor Sani Zaharaddeen; Rt. Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, Member representing Tudun Wada/Doguwa Federal Constituency; Prof. Ibrahim Me Bushra, former Hibah Commander General; and Malam Muhammad Jamoh, an APC stalwart, among other dignitaries.
