Controversy has continued between the Federal Ministry of Environment and an estate development company, Syga Dynamic Solutions, over the ownership and possession of a parcel of land belonging to the National Agency for the Great Green Wall in Kano State.
The company, through its legal representatives, has insisted that it possesses documentary evidence and legal authority supporting its claim to acquire and convert the land for residential development.
In a statement issued on Sunday, counsel to Syga Dynamic Solutions, Barrister Sadiku Sammani, said the company had successfully completed all the processes required to acquire the federal government property under the Presidential Committee on the Lease of Federal Government Property.
According to him, despite completing the required procedures, the company was allegedly denied access to the property despite several attempts.
The counsel said the company consequently approached the Kano State High Court, Court No. 11, on June 17, 2026, where it obtained an interim order, with the matter adjourned to July 6, 2026, for hearing of the motion on notice.
He said on July 6, the defendants were absent and unrepresented, with no explanation given for their absence. The case was subsequently adjourned to July 10, 2026, for hearing of the motion on notice.
“On July 10, 2026, the defendants were still absent and unrepresented. However, upon proof of service of the hearing notice on the defendants on July 6, the applicant was granted leave to move his application,” the statement said.
According to the counsel, the court thereafter granted an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the respondents, whether by themselves, their servants, agents, privies, officers or any person acting through or under them, from further dealing with, interfering with or in any way disturbing the applicant’s possession of the property.
The property, according to the court order, is designated as AREA-1, measuring approximately 90,584.72 square metres, and situated at Afforestation Quarters, Third Gate, Janbulo, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.
The injunction is to remain in force pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
The court also ordered the respondents, their servants, agents or any other person acting through or under them, not to prevent, obstruct, harass, intimidate or otherwise disturb the applicant, its agents, consultants or representatives from accessing, entering, inspecting or monitoring activities on the property pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
Efforts to obtain the reaction of the legal department of the Federal Ministry of Environment on whether it was aware of the suit were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
