Security Of A Nation Is First And Foremost The Security Of Its Citizens – Emir Sunusi

The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sunusi II, has said that the security of a nation is first and foremost the security of its citizens.
Khalifa Sunusi made the remarks during an event organized by the International Humanitarian Law Society, Northwest University, Kano,Faculty of Law.

Publicity Officer II on behalf of the Registrar of the University, said the Emir was the Royal Father of the day at the event, and in his keynote address, he talked about “Leadership Peace and the Role of Traditional Institutions in Nation Building.”
According to him,insecurity is a phenomenon that is far more than the territorial boundary defence of the nation, adding that most of the insecurity issues Nigeria is facing today is as a result of neglecting the most fundamental aspect of building blocks of security.
He said a woman who doesn’t have access to antenatal care is insecure, a child who doesn’t have access to education is insecure, also a young man who doesn’t have a job is insecure.
The Emir maintained that the most important thing for every nation is the security and well-being of its citizens, pointing out that most crimes are perpetrated by the youths.
He, therefore, urged communities to fight against drug abuse and the activities of drug dealers in their midst.
In her speech, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, expressed delight at the humility of the Emir, whenever she sees him sit in the class with his fellow classmates.
Professor Amina described the Emir’s gesture as a powerful signal and a source of encouragement not only to the students but also to the nation .
She said law is a subject that needs to be learned irrespective of age, and commended the effort of the Dean faculty of Law, the International Humanitarian Law Society and the entire faculty of Law for organizing the event.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication and also a Spokesperson to the President of Nigeria, Honourable Sunday Akin Dare CON who was the guest speaker at the event, delivered a distinguished lecture titled:” Peace Leadership and Nation Building.”
Dare dwelled extensively on the issues of peace, security, leadership and nation building,maintaining that Nigeria is not a lost course, and Africa is not a condemned enterprise.
“We can and we must chart a pathway out of the nation’s maze. But to do that we must look backward to remember who we are and look forward to building the durable institutions of fairness equal rights, humanitarian justice, peace and love for humanity,” he said
In his remarks, the chief host, Dean faculty of Law, Associate professor Ahmad Jibrin Suleiman, thanked all the guests for finding time to be part of the event, which he described as an honour.
Prof Suleiman then expressed the need to teach the younger generation leadership by conduct, citing the example of the Emir, whom he said is an admirable King, and an inspiration to the younger generation.
At the event the International Humanitarian Law Society presented an award
of honour to His Royal Highness, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, in recognition of his distinguished scholarship and discipline in Nigeria.
An award of honour was also presented to Honourable Sunday Akin Dare, in recognition for his selfless service to humanity and the nation at large.
An Award was also presented to the vice chancellor, professor Amina Salihi Bayero, for her distinguished transformation and leadership of the university.
An award was also presented to one of the university’s security personnel, Kabiru for his outstanding performance.
