The Presidency has waded into the escalating crisis involving supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State, following allegations of victimisation and disciplinary actions against members of a pro-Tinubu group.
The development comes amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections and renewed efforts to consolidate support for President Tinubu in Kano.
Sources also linked prominent political figure Ibrahim Shonikan, founder of TMS in Kano, who is said to be in loggerhead with Governor Yuauf and the Kabo Local Government Chairman, to the unfolding tensions within the local political landscape.
The crisis reportedly followed the alleged dismissal of the local government secretary and four other officials by the council chairman over their purported association with groups supporting Tinubu and Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.
The affected supporters are said to have petitioned relevant authorities, alleging intimidation and victimisation over their political activities in support of the President and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The intervention by the Presidency is expected to focus on resolving the disagreement and ensuring that supporters mobilising for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid are not subjected to political persecution.
The development is particularly significant as Kabo remains an important political constituency in Kano North and the home local government of Senator Barau.
President Tinubu secured a landslide victory in Kabo Ward during the APC presidential primary conducted in May, polling all the valid votes cast against his challenger, Osifo Stanley.
The Presidency had earlier called for unity among APC stakeholders in Kano following the appointment of Murtala Sule Garo as Deputy Governor of the state, urging party leaders and stakeholders to support the governor and his deputy.
Political observers said the latest development could test the ability of APC leaders to manage internal disagreements while sustaining grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
