The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has directed all political parties, support groups and Associations to formally notify the Police before holding any rally, procession, campaign, meeting, or other large public political gatherings in the State.
A statement signed by the State Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, says the directive is to prevent clashes, avoid scheduling conflicts at the same venue, route, date or time, and to enable adequate security and traffic arrangements.
CP Azare said the organizers are expected to communicate with the Police in advance and provide details including date, time, venue, expected number of participants, and proposed routes where applicable.
He warned political thugs and troublemakers to desist from violence, saying that the police will take firm and lawful actions against anyone found fomenting trouble, engaging in thuggery, carrying offensive weapons, intimidating opponents, destroying property, or blocking public roads unlawfully.
He directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders across the state to intensify intelligence gathering and provide adequate security around political activities and other public gatherings.
He added that the Command remains committed to providing a level playing ground for all political parties, irrespective of their affiliation.
