Kano State Deputy Governor Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo has called for greater investment in education, economic empowerment and peaceful coexistence for Fulbe communities.
Garo, representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, made the call on Saturday at the Tabital Pulaaku International Assembly held in Kano.
He said the theme of the assembly, “Towards Growing the Economy, Livelihoods and Education for Fulbe Communities,” was timely, given the challenges facing the communities.
Garo said Fulbe communities had contributed significantly to livestock production, agriculture, trade and other economic activities, stressing the need to improve access to finance, markets, animal health services and water.
He also called for improved education for children in rural and herder communities, with a combination of religious, conventional, vocational and digital learning.
The Deputy Governor stressed the importance of educating girls and young women, while urging stakeholders to promote dialogue and peaceful solutions to farmer-herder conflicts.
He said the Kano State Government was ready to work with Tabital Pulaaku International, traditional institutions and community organisations to address challenges affecting the communities.
Garo reaffirmed the government’s support for initiatives focused on education, economic empowerment, improved livelihoods, peaceful coexistence and cultural preservation.
Also speaking, the Emir of Kano and President of Tabital Pulaaku International, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, urged members to understand the responsibilities of the organisation’s international and national structures.
Sanusi likened the structures to a holding company and an operating company, saying the international body should focus on strategy and coordination, while national chapters should handle issues within their respective countries, with support from the international leadership when needed.
