From Umar Dankano, Yola
Adamawa State governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 elections, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani, has rejected allegations by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and national leader of the party, David Babachir Lawal, accusing her and other North-East governorship candidates of working against the party’s presidential ticket.
Lawal had reportedly accused Binani and other NDC governorship candidates in the North-East of acting against the party’s presidential interest and also alleged that he was rejected as the leader of the party in the region.
Reacting to the allegation, Binani said she participated in a democratically convened meeting of NDC governorship candidates where decisions concerning the North-East were taken.
She said she remained committed to the collective decision to recognise Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as the party’s leader in the North.
Speaking through her Campaign Organisation’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Mathias Yohanna, in Yola at the weekend, Binani said the decision was collectively reached in the interest of the party and was not targeted at any individual.
She urged party members and leaders to uphold the principles of integrity, mutual respect and democratic decision-making in resolving internal disagreements.
The campaign organisation also called on the national leadership of the NDC to address what it described as unguarded and divisive statements capable of affecting unity within the party.
Yohanna, in a statement titled “Response to Engr. Babachir Lawal on His Attack on the Gubernatorial Candidates from the North-East Region,” said political leaders should prioritise unity and the growth of the party.
He said the organisation respected the right of individuals to express their views but maintained that party disagreements should be handled within the provisions of the NDC constitution and through appropriate channels.
The campaign organisation further urged the party leadership to intervene in the dispute and ensure that internal disagreements did not undermine the party’s activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
