The Kano State Security Neighborhood Watch Corps has reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, as well as safeguarding public infrastructure across Kano State.
The Deputy Commander General of the Corps, Major Adamu Abubakar (Rtd), made this known while parading two suspects apprehended by personnel of the Kano Municipal Command for allegedly vandalizing government property and stealing metal fences installed around Kofar Nasarawa bridge.
Yusuf Abubakar Ibrahim, Director Public Enlightenment, KSNWC disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen today.
According to Yusuf, the suspects, identified as Abba Aminu, 30, of Durmin Zungura Quarters, Kano Municipal, and Yusha’u Nasiru, 26, from Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State, were apprehended at about 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday during an operation by the Corps.
Major Abubakar stated that the Corps would not relent in its efforts to combat all forms of criminality, vandalism, and sabotage capable of undermining public safety, peace, and the protection of government infrastructure across the state.
He emphasized that the protection of public property remains a collective responsibility, noting that the destruction and theft of government infrastructure not only cause economic losses but also pose serious risks to the safety and well-being of members of the public.
The Deputy Commander General therefore called on the good people of Kano State to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible and useful information regarding suspicious persons, movements, and activities to security agencies to facilitate timely intervention and prevent criminal activities.
He further urged residents to serve as vigilant watchers and protectors of their respective communities, stressing that security is a collective responsibility that requires the cooperation and active participation of all citizens.
Major Abubakar disclosed that the suspects would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and necessary legal action, with a view to ensuring that they are charged before a court of competent jurisdiction, where warranted.
He commended the personnel responsible for the successful operation for their dedication, vigilance, and commitment to duty. The personnel were identified as Mujahid Ibrahim Auwal, Mustapha Garba, and Umar Yahaya Adam.
The Deputy Commander General reaffirmed the Corps’ determination to sustain its operations and strengthen community-based security efforts in support of the Kano State Government’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful, safe, and secure environment for all residents.
