In his opening address, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, stated that the essence of the quarterly review meeting was to evaluate the Agency’s operational performance, assess progress made, and identify challenges requiring attention to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the state’s health supply chain.
The Commissioner congratulated the management of DMCSA on the remarkable developments recorded by the Agency, commending its efforts towards improving the availability of essential health commodities, strengthening financial sustainability, and enhancing accountability in the management of public resources.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Director General of DMCSA, Pharm. Gali Sule, explained that the meeting had been rebranded as the Kano State Health Supply Chain Quarterly Review Meeting to comprehensively capture and coordinate health supply chain activities across the state.
According to him, the expanded scope of the meeting provides a common platform for all relevant health programmes, programme officers, zonal warehouse managers, and other stakeholders to participate, present reports, evaluate performance, and collectively address issues affecting the state’s health commodity supply chain.
Pharm. Sule noted that the initiative would promote a more integrated approach to supply chain management by improving information sharing, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, and ensuring that decisions are informed by comprehensive performance data from across the health sector.
The Director General expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his visionary leadership and commitment to institutionalizing mechanisms that promote transparency, accountability, and improved service delivery in the health sector.
“I want to use this opportunity to congratulate His Excellency, Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for institutionalizing this laudable initiative to ensure transparency and accountability in the health sector,’ Pharm. Sule said.
Noting that, ‘Under the present administration, we have witnessed tremendous achievements, including an increase in the number of stock keeping units, improved drug availability, the clearance of inherited debt, and a significant increase in the Agency’s fund value.
“When the present administration took over the Agency, we inherited a negative fund value of ₦102 million. Today, our fund value has risen to over ₦700 million, with the latest reported figure reaching approximately ₦943 million. This represents a major milestone and a significant improvement in the financial position of the Agency.”
The Director General further expressed optimism that, with sustained government support and continued improvements in operational efficiency, the Agency’s fund value would reach the ₦1 billion threshold before the end of Governor Yusuf’s administration.
He reaffirmed the management’s commitment to consolidating the gains recorded so far, improving the availability of essential medicines and medical consumables, and ensuring the prudent management of the Agency’s financial and material resources.
The quarterly review meeting is designed to achieve several strategic objectives, including reviewing supply chain performance and management, monitoring progress on upcoming procurement and tender activities, and assessing operational performance to ensure that planned activities are implemented and strategic objectives achieved.
It also seeks to promote transparency and accountability in the management of health commodities, financial resources, and health programmes; strengthen communication, collaboration, and coordination between DMCSA, implementing programmes, and other stakeholders; and ensure the uninterrupted availability and security of essential health commodities across the state through effective supply chain oversight.
Furthermore, the meeting provides an opportunity to review the supply chain status of key health programmes, identify emerging challenges, and develop practical strategies for addressing gaps in procurement, warehousing, distribution, and commodity management.
The Agency reiterated its commitment to strengthening the state’s health supply chain through continuous performance monitoring, improved coordination, financial discipline, and evidence-based decision-making.
The achievements highlighted at the meeting reflect ongoing efforts by the Kano State Government and the management of DMCSA to build a more responsive, transparent, and sustainable health commodity supply system that supports healthcare facilities and improves access to essential medicines and medical consumables for residents across Kano State.
