Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s free mega medical outreach is providing critical healthcare support to indigent and vulnerable residents, with hundreds turning out daily to access essential medical services at designated centres across the state.
The initiative, jointly sponsored by Governor Mutfwang and Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo, is aimed at reducing the financial burden of healthcare and expanding access to quality medical services for residents, particularly those who cannot afford treatment.
At the Shendam and Mangu General Hospitals, designated centres for the Southern and Central Senatorial Districts, beneficiaries, including women, children and elderly persons, have continued to receive medical attention.
The outreach provides free eye care, dental treatment, laboratory investigations and surgical procedures, while the Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (PLASCHEMA) is enrolling eligible beneficiaries into health insurance schemes to ensure continued access to healthcare beyond the exercise.
Speaking on the progress of the programme, Team Lead, Dr. Nuhu Ma’an, said hundreds of residents were turning out daily, expressing satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the exercise and the commitment of medical personnel to providing timely treatment.
He assured residents that adequate medical personnel had been deployed to the two centres to ensure effective management of cases, particularly those requiring urgent medical intervention.
Dr. Ma’an also announced that the outreach would be extended to the Northern Senatorial District next week, with Governor Mutfwang expected to perform the flag-off.
The extension will bring the programme to all three senatorial districts, reinforcing the state government’s drive to make essential healthcare services more accessible to underserved communities.
Beyond providing immediate medical relief, the initiative is expected to ease healthcare costs for vulnerable households and promote wider health insurance coverage, underscoring the Mutfwang administration’s commitment to inclusive development and improved citizens’ welfare.
