The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, has described the conferment of the traditional title of Sarkin Yamman Gaya on Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim Ma’aji by the Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, as a case of “a round peg in a round hole.”
Garo made the remarks on Sunday at a Walima reception organised in honour of the newly turbaned Sarkin Yamman Gaya at Ammani Event Centre, Kano.
Ma’aji, who is the Chairman of Platinum Synergy Company, was recognised by the Deputy Governor for his contributions to business development, religious institutions, unity and the preservation of cultural heritage.
According to Garo, the Emir of Gaya made an appropriate choice in conferring the title on Ma’aji, considering his contributions to the development of the community.
“Indeed, the Emir of Gaya has placed a round peg in a round hole, in consideration of Ma’aji’s relentless efforts in contributing to the development of the business community, religious institutions and promoting unity among the people, as well as safeguarding and preserving our culture,” he said.
The Deputy Governor prayed to Almighty Allah to guide Ma’aji in the discharge of his responsibilities as he begins his new role as Sarkin Yamman Gaya.
He also expressed hope that the traditional title holder would work closely with other district heads in the Gaya Emirate to sustain peaceful administration and preserve the emirate’s cultural and religious institutions.
Garo further urged Ma’aji to continue supporting the people and providing constructive advice to the Gaya Emirate to promote peace and contribute to its overall development.
Dignitaries who attended the Walima reception included Alhaji Ahmad Ado Bayero, Dan Iyan Kano; Alhaji Dr. Auwalu Mudi Yakassai, Dan Malikin Kano, Hakimin Rimin Gado and Aminu Abdullahi Nasidi, Hakimin Sumaila among others.
