This is contained in a statement signed
by Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa,Public Relations Officer,Ministry of Health.
K/Na’isa said the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, disclosed this during the official flag-off ceremony of the November immunisation exercise.
He explained that the campaign, scheduled to take place from November 7 to 10, 2026, is aimed at increasing immunisation coverage and preventing the spread of polio virus across the affected communities.
Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf noted that Kano State had recorded significant improvements in polio immunisation coverage compared to previous years.
He further disclosed that more than three million doses of the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) have been provided for the exercise.
According to the Commissioner, trained vaccination teams will conduct house-to-house visits across the 30 Local Government Areas to administer two drops of the oral polio vaccine to every eligible child under the age of five.
The Commissioner added that temporary vaccination posts would also be established at district heads’ residences to improve access to immunisation services and increase the number of children reached during the campaign.
He further stated that vaccination teams would visit schools in collaboration with school authorities to identify and immunise eligible children who may have missed previous vaccination opportunities.
Dr. Yusuf also emphasised the importance of involving religious leaders and other key stakeholders in the campaign, noting that their influence within communities would play a significant role in raising public awareness and encouraging parents to present their children for vaccination.
The Commissioner commended the Kano State Government for its continued support and commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector.
The Commisioner expressed optimism that collaboration among Local Government Areas, development partners, media organisations and community leaders would further increase immunisation coverage and contribute significantly to the ongoing efforts to eradicate poliomyelitis.
