President Tinubu approves partial waiver of “No Work, No Pay” order on ASUU, NARD
In a move to address the lingering impact of industrial actions by university lecturers and resident doctors, President Bola Tinubu has approved the partial waiver of the “No Work, No Pay” Order on striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).
This was contained in a statement released to newsmen by Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale.
Ajuri stated under the terms of the waiver, ASUU members will receive four (4) months of salary accruals out of the eight months of salary which was withheld during their eight-month industrial action. NARD members will receive the full salaries which were withheld during their 17-day strike action.
The President’s decision was made in recognition of the faithful implementation of terms which were agreed upon during negotiations between the unions and the Federal Government.
However, the President has also directed that the Federal Ministries of Education, Labour and Employment, Health and Social Welfare must secure Documents of Understanding (DoUs) from both unions establishing that these exceptional waivers will be the last ones to be granted.
The President has expressed his determination to mitigate the difficulties being felt during the implementation of key economic reforms in the country, and has called on all stakeholders to work together to ensure that such disruptions to the education and health sectors are avoided in the future.
