Govt Palliative: Gombe Orphanages decry alleged neglect

The Director General Christian Covenant & Orphans Foundation, Mr. El-Polycarp Degri, has lamented the alleged neglect of Orphanages in the distribution of Palliatives.

Degri who doubles as the secretary general of the Christians Orphanage in Nigeria in an interview with our correspondent in Gombe said they have not received any palliative for the benefits of the orphans in Gombe.

He said the only assistance received was food items donated to Christian and Muslim Orphanage by the Women Police serving at the Gombe state command

He commended the efforts of the women police as well as individuals who were visiting the vulnerable children to show them love and make donations.

He further called on the government and the authority concern, North East Development Commission to come to their aide, ” We are appealing to the government at all levels to come and assist us.

“ The children under our care need good food, quality education like other children in the society, hence the need for the government to come in,” he said.

According to him, the Muslim orphanage also complained bitterly because they have not received the palliative.

” Based on the information I got from the chairman of the Muslim orphanage Dr Babayo Kolo, government has not been giving them any subvention or any assistance to run the place,” he explained.

He also said, most of the orphans were in their foster homes while those that reached were getting married” We only have 60 under our care between the age of 4 and 12,” he said.

Contacted the committee chairman of the distribution of state government palliative who is also the Executive Secretary state emergency management Agency (SEMA) Abdullahi Haruna on the issues saying that he would not aware of the existence of the Christians’ orphanage in the state.

He said, he is only aware of the muslim orphanage which he once visited and donated some food items.

He however promised to reach them as soon as the Federal Government is ready.
