The Volunteers for Democracy and Good Governance,a Kano-based Civil Society Organization(CSO),has called for the overhaul of the nation’s security architecture to be in tune with international best practices in combating insecurity.
The group made the call against the backdrop the recent error military drone attack that killed dozens of people during a religious festival in Tudun Biri of Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The call is contained in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday by the group’s Public Relations Officer,Alhaji Shehu Isah Driver.
“We recommend an overhaul of our security architecture to be in tune with international best practices in the war against terrorism, banditry, armed robbery/conflict and farmer-harders clashes,”Driver said.
While bemoaning the attack, the group also called for a full-scale and immediate investigation to unravel the circumstances and perpetrators of the Tudun Biri incident and others before it, and take necessary measures with a view to forestalling future occurrence.
It then suggested the immediate provision of relief assistance to those injured and the immediate families of persons killed during the incident,as well as payment of full compensation to all the victims.
The group, however, commended the Federal Government for its response to the incident, but called for an immediate implementation of the promises it made.
It expressed its condolences to the families of those killed during the incident, the Government and people of Kaduna State and the Emir of Zazzau, and prayed for the souls of the deceased and for the speedy recovery of those injured.
