Kano Now Free Of Refuse Dumps, Says REMASAB MD

The Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board(REMASAB) says it has virtually cleansed Kano of refuse dumps that had littered the state capital for many years.
The Managing Director of the Board,Alhaji Ahmadu Danzago, stated this while addressing newsmen in Kano on Thursday.
Danzago said the feat was achieved through a sustained refuse collection operation embarked upon by the board since he assumed office as Managing of Director in July 2023.
During the exercise,he said, the agency was able to rid about 30 major roads of heaps of refuse which had rendered the streets almost impassable.
Areas that benefited from the exercise he said, included Koki,Jakara,Makwarari,Kwalwa,Mandawari and Kwanar Gabari where refuse dumps had constituted huge nuisance to residents of the city.
“The people of Kano State can testify to the fact that before we came in, these areas and many more in the state capital had been virtually taken over by huge refuse dumps which obstructed traffic flow and caused environmental hazards.
“But on my assumption of duty,we mobilised our personnel and equipment and substantially cleared the filths and restored sanity in those areas, giving the residents some relief,”the managing director said.
He said thousands of tones of refuse had so far been removed from the affected areas, and that the 24-hour exercise is a continuous one.
“Our staff and equipment are working 24/7 in our bid to rid Kano of refuse dumps that had been constituting nuisance both to the residents and our visitors,”Danzago said.
On the disposal of the wastes collected, the managing director said the board is mulling plans to recycle them to produce manure and other useful substances.
“We are thinking of recycling the thousands of tonnes of waste we have been collecting to produce manure, rubber materials and other products, thereby turning the wastes to wealth,” he added.
