Dangote Multi-billion Naira Expansion Work On Kano Hospital Nearing Completion

The Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group’s intervention in the expansion work at Murtala Mohammed Hospital Antenatal Unit and other Units worth billions of Naira would soon be completed.
The President of the Kano Friends of the Hospital, Dr Bature AbdulAziz, disclosed this during an inspection visit to the ongoing expansion work on the oldest and biggest Hospital in the North where over 1, 000 babies are delivered monthly.
The Friends of the Hospital were told by the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Usman Tijjani, who conducted their rounds, that the hospital presently receives on a monthly basis not less than 16,000 women in pregnancy antenatal.
Dr Tijjani also said that the hospital was built in 1926 and was operated by the Colonial Masters for over 34 years, and later on, Nigerian Medical Doctors like Dr Rabiu Dan Sitta with over 18 others took over the management of the hospital.
He said the intervention of Alhaji Aliko Dangote in the construction of another Maternity Ward with other important wards would help in no small measure in enabling Murtala to retain its glorious name as the biggest hospital in Northern Nigeria.
Murtala Mohammed Hospital is said to receive on a daily basis over 4,000 Patients, while over 500 pregnant women conduct antenatal tests daily, and over 200 surgeries are conducted also daily.
Speaking during the visit, the President of Friends of the Hospital, Dr Bature AbdulAziz, commended Aliko Dangote for spending billions of Naira to expand the hospital.
Dr Bature AbdulAziz said Kano people are extremely happy with the Dangote intervention in Northern Nigeria’s biggest and oldest hospital, which he noted would keep other Neighboring States including people from Niger, Chad and Cameron Republics patronizing the hospital.
“For over 100 years, the Alhassan Dantata Family have been doing this kind of Philanthropic gesture, with over 250,000 people employed in different scales of jobs by the family, so it is not a new thing Dangote is doing, it is an inheritance gesture,” Dr Bature AbdulAziz added.
The Chief Medical Director, Dr Usman Tijjani, said with the expansion works, the number of babies being delivered at the hospital would increase, and the number of patients visiting Doctors would also redouble.
