Adamawa Commits N450 Million as Counter-Funding for 2025 Immunization Activities – ADSPHCDA Chairman

The Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ADSPHCDA) has concluded arrangements to commence the National Immunization Plus Days exercise, which involves administering two drops of the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) across the state.
Executive Chairman of the Agency, Dr. Suleiman Bashir Sa’idu, disclosed this on Wednesday in Yola during a media engagement titled “Mass Media Dialogue with Journalists, Social Media Youth Influencers and Partners.” He explained that the immunization exercise is designed to build the body’s defense mechanism against various diseases.
Dr. Sa’idu noted that the initiative aims to strengthen routine immunization efforts for better health outcomes. He commended the support and cooperation of development partners, particularly UNICEF, for their continued assistance to the state’s health sector.
The chairman observed that the high rate of international travel by Nigerians exposes them to disease risks, hence the importance of vaccination, especially for children. He urged parents and guardians to ensure their wards receive necessary health care services for healthy growth and to cooperate with medical teams during home-to-home vaccination exercises.
Dr. Sa’idu emphasized that awareness creation for immunization is a collective responsibility. He announced that the state government recently transmitted N100 million to UNICEF and N50 million to UNFPA as part of its counter-funding commitments.
“The Adamawa State Government has been making tremendous efforts, deploying human, financial, and material resources to improve healthcare and the well-being of the people. Just yesterday, we transmitted N150 million—N100 million to UNICEF and N50 million to UNFPA. Earlier in June, we transmitted N300 million to UNICEF to provide essential nutrients for children across the state,” he stated.
In his remarks, the Director of Disease Control and Immunization at the Agency, Dr. James Vasumu, commended the media for their continuous support in publicizing the agency’s programs. He acknowledged the role of journalists, broadcasters, and social media influencers in the agency’s recorded successes and called for sustained collaboration.
Dr. Vasumu also appreciated the efforts of development partners, as well as traditional and religious leaders, for promoting the agency’s activities across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the media, former Adamawa State NUJ Chairman, Umar Dankano, expressed gratitude to the ADSPHCDA for recognizing journalists as key partners in promoting healthcare delivery.
Dankano assured that members of the media remain committed to supporting the agency’s initiatives and will continue to contribute to advancing healthcare development in the state.
