Adamawa Female Student Commits Suicide Over Failed Relationship.
From Umar Dankano, Yola
The Federal Polytechnic Mubi community is in mourning following the tragic death of 24-year-old student Jemima Shetima Balami.
Jemima, a diploma two student undergoing industrial attachment at Adamawa State Television Yola, took her own life amidst relationship troubles with her boyfriend.
Reports indicate that Jemima resorted to this extreme step after her boyfriend, reportedly a lecturer (name withheld) at Modibbo Adama University, terminated their relationship. It is reported that she consumed a substance suspected to be rat poison.
Hailing from Garkida town in the Gombi Local Government Area of the State, Jemima, the only daughter of her father, passed away in her residence at Vinikilang in Girei local government area.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, the spokesman of the Adamawa Police Command, confirmed the incident. He stated that the father of the deceased reported the matter on Monday, revealing two versions of the story—one suggesting she took the deadly substance after the breakup, and the other indicating she visited her boyfriend, who instructed her to end the relationship.
Nguroje emphasized the ongoing investigation into the matter, assuring that justice would be served. He urged the public to avoid taking their own lives, emphasizing that conflicts could be resolved amicably rather than resorting to extremes. Committing suicide is an offense, he noted, and discouraged such actions.
