Adamawa: FRSC Flags Off Ember Months Operations for Safer Travels in Nigeria
From Umar Dankano, Yola
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has flagged off its 2025 Ember Months Operations to ensure safe travels across Nigeria.
Corps Marshal of the Commission, Shehu Mohammed, disclosed this at a press conference in Yola on Monday, noting that the annual exercise is part of the Corps’ tradition to intensify public awareness campaigns on adherence to traffic rules and regulations.
Represented by the Adamawa State Sector Commander, Abdulmalik Bello Dama, the Corps Marshal revealed that findings by the FRSC indicate that most road crashes in the country are caused by drivers’ failure to comply with traffic regulations.
According to him, available records show that between 15th December 2024 and 15th January 2025, a total of 433 people lost their lives, while 2,070 sustained injuries in 533 reported road crashes across the country.
He explained that these accidents were primarily caused by violations such as speeding, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, failure to obey traffic signals, seatbelt violations, and the use of mobile phones while driving.
Speaking on the activities of the Adamawa State Command, Commander Dama expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their continuous support and cooperation since his assumption of office.
He disclosed that between January and September 2024, the Command recorded 109 road crashes, which resulted in 31 deaths and injuries to 241 males, 93 females, and 16 children.
Similarly, from January to September 2025, 95 road crashes were recorded in the state, involving 273 males, 96 females, and 16 children. He added that from July to September 2025, 90 road crashes occurred involving 51 males, 5 females, and 4 children, with no fatalities recorded.
Commander Dama noted that this year’s Ember Months Operations, themed “Take Responsibility for Your Safety — Stop Distracted Driving,” is aimed at engaging vehicle owners directly to promote awareness and ensure safety compliance on Nigerian roads.
He further revealed that a mobile court has been established to swiftly administer justice to offenders who violate traffic laws. He warned motorists against life-threatening behaviours on the road, urging them to adopt responsible driving habits or face sanctions accordingly.
