Adamawa: Ganye LG Collaborates with UNICEF on Immunization Campaigns

From Umar Dankano, Yola

The Ganye Local Government Council in Adamawa State has inaugurated a 100-member committee tagged “Fathers for Good Health,” tasked with creating awareness and promoting immunization across the ten political wards of the area.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony on Monday in Ganye town, the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Faruk Mohammed, expressed appreciation to UNICEF for selecting Ganye as one of the three local government areas in Adamawa State to benefit from the rigorous vaccination campaign targeting children and women.

Hon. Mohammed pledged his administration’s full support for the initiative, urging members of the committee to work diligently toward achieving the set objectives and ensuring that no eligible person is left out of the immunization exercise.

Addressing the gathering, George Eki, UNICEF’s Social and Behavioral Change (SBC) Specialist from the Bauchi Field Office, explained that the organization decided to extend the program to Adamawa after witnessing its positive impact in Bauchi and Gombe States, where participation in immunization significantly improved.

Eki noted that the group, composed mainly of fathers, is expected to leverage their influence in the community to sensitize families on the importance of immunization. He added that the immunization registers provided to them contain detailed information on households, family names, and children, which will aid in effective tracking and record-keeping.

He further charged members of the “Fathers for Good Health” group to ensure full coverage in their communities, emphasizing that parents and guardians are the primary beneficiaries of immunization programs since they bear the burden when children fall sick.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Ganye Local Government Primary Health Care Development Department, Jared Satburi Gangso, said the members of the committee were carefully selected based on their commitment and experience in community health delivery.

Gangso urged them to intensify immunization awareness efforts in their respective areas, stressing that proper registration of pregnant women and maternal health activities should also be emphasized for better understanding and wider impact.
