Adamawa: NDE Commissions 500 Metres Drainage System in Garkida Community

The National Directorate of Employment, NDE has constructed and commissioned a five hundred (500) metres length drainage system at Peter Tarfa ward of Garkida community in Gombi local government area of Adamawa state.
In his keynote address at the commissioning ceremony held at the Peter Tarfa ward, weekend Director General of the Directorate (NDE), Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo said the project was undertaken through a collaborative effort between the special public works department of the NDE and members of the community under its labour base infrastructural development scheme (LBIDS).
Represented by the Director of Procedure, Mallam Aliyu Abubakar, Fikpo applauded the support and cooperation rendered by the community for the realization of the project noting that, the collaborative effort has yielded impressive results with the successful completion of the desired drainage system.
Fikpo explained that the program took place simultaneously across the six (6) political zones in the country stressing that, it encompasses a wide range of activities including construction, rehabilitation, Maintenance works, environmental protection efforts and provision of essential amenities such as boreholes and solar light.
“The core objective of this scheme is to engage and utilize the talent of both skilled and unskilled members of our host Communities to address present infrastructural needs and also provide an opportunity for participants to acquire new skills and experience, particularly in the construction sector.
“This project stands as a testament to what can be achieved when we work together towards a common goal and our approach emphasizes labour-intensified method complemented by appropriate light equipment ensuring that our strategies are cost-effective and sustainable”. Fikpo highlighted.
Delivering his welcome address, the state Coordinator of the Directorate, NDE. Mallam Nuhu Bello congratulated the community for witnessing the echo-making historic event purposely made to provide solutions to usual annual flooding experiences and to also ensure hygiene and a clean environment, especially during the rainy season.
Bello expressed gratitude to the Director General of the Directorate and his team for giving the approval and all needed support for the actualization of the project from the beginning to its end urging the community to guard it jealously for the benefit of their people.
In his remarks, the Sole Administrator of Garkida Development Area, Mr Yusuf Garnuwa acknowledged the gesture saying NDE has always been there for their communities citing the recent skills acquisition training conducted by the Directorate to their teeming youths which he opined was an achievement that gave employment opportunities through self-reliance to their children.
Responding separately, the District head of Garkida(Represented by Lawnan Hussaini Tarfa) and the ward head of Peter Tarfa (Represented by Bitrus Zoaka) applauded the construction of the drainage system pledging to ensure proper maintenance culture by their subjects.
