Adamawa NLC Joins National Protest Against Hunger, Hardship, Insecurity

From Umar Dankano, Yola

The Adamawa state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress has joined its counterparts in staging a peaceful protest against economic hardship, hunger, and insecurity plaguing the country.

Leadership and some members of the Congress, led by the state chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, marched from the NLC state Secretariat situated at Ribadu street, old GRA, Jimeta through the famous police roundabout to Government House Gate, Dougerie hills Yola, protesting the high cost of living.

Addressing government officials at the Government House gate, Fashe expressed concern that hunger, poverty, and insecurity are tormenting Nigerians, stating that people are succumbing to hunger daily due to the harsh realities of life.

Fashe added that Nigeria is wealthy enough to cater to all its citizens but, due to a lack of political will and misguided government policies, sufferings have pervaded all aspects of life.

Regrettably, he confirmed that the situation is so dire that prices of goods in local markets have skyrocketed by 300%, urging the government to implement policies with a human face.

While commending Governor Fintiri’s administration for its achievements in the state, Fashe appealed to him to reinstate the N10,000 palliative support previously provided to workers, which was withdrawn in February.

Comrade Emmanuel Fashe later presented a copy of a letter of demands to the Governor for onward transmission to President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in Abuja.

Receiving the protesters on behalf of the Governor, Chief of Staff to Gov. Fintiri, Edgar Amos, commended the NLC for advocating for the demands and welfare of their members in an orderly and mature manner.

Amos promised to convey their message to the Governor, describing the prevailing hardship in the land as “unfortunate” and emphasizing that “no food means no peace, and no food means no security.
