The Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated caretaker committees for the 21 local government areas of the state.
Also inaugurated were 21 caretaker secretaries and 63 ex-officio members, with three representatives drawn from each local council, to oversee the affairs of the party pending the conduct of elections in line with the PDP constitution.
Administering the oath of office, Barrister John Tunoh charged the interim officials to strictly adhere to the provisions of both the party and national constitutions, particularly as outlined in Schedule II.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held Tuesday in Yola, the State Interim Chairman of the party, Engr. Belmont Dogo, described the selection of the caretaker committee members as a demonstration of the confidence reposed in them by the party leadership.
He emphasized that the strength of any political party lies in its grassroots structure, noting that the local government caretaker committees serve as the “engine room” of the party in their respective areas.
Dogo urged the officials to work closely with stakeholders at the ward and local government levels to promote peace, unity, and cooperation within the party.
He cautioned against divisions and personal interests that could undermine the party’s collective strength.
“It is your responsibility to help reposition the party, rebuild confidence among members, and prepare the ground for future successes, particularly in upcoming political activities and elections,” he said.
The chairman also directed the committees to liaise with stakeholders to facilitate the nomination of delegates from their respective councils for the forthcoming national convention.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, the caretaker chairman of Fufore Local Government Area, Hon. Inuwa Umar, expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in them and pledged their commitment to the development of the party.
He urged his colleagues to remain loyal and dedicated, stressing that teamwork would be key to achieving the party’s goals in future elections.
