ADC Will Lead Nigeria’s Redemption, Says Ex-Minister Idris at Gombe Opposition Meeting
From Abubakar Rabilu, Gombe
Former Minister of Transport, Idris Umar, has declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will spearhead the political and economic redemption of Nigeria, as opposition parties in Gombe State unite under the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Umar made this statement during an expanded caucus meeting held at Shugleez Event Centre in Gombe on Tuesday, where top opposition figures and party stakeholders gathered to formally unveil the ADC as their collective political platform.
“This coalition is not just about grabbing power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). It is about rescuing Nigeria and restoring hope to millions suffering under current socio-economic hardships,” Umar said.
He noted that the country is in desperate need of new leadership focused on the people’s welfare and not political gain. “The ADC is the vehicle through which we will redeem Nigeria and offer real change,” he added.
He urged Nigerians, especially the electorate in Gombe, to be discerning in the upcoming elections and judge the APC by its performance, stressing that the power to chart a new course lies with the people.
To build momentum ahead of 2027, the former minister announced that the ADC will commence a state-wide membership registration drive across all 114 wards, with an open-door policy welcoming Nigerians of all backgrounds and political affiliations.
In his address, the Gombe State ADC Chairman, Auwal Abba Barde, welcomed new members into the party and assured them of active roles in the party’s growth and strategy for the next elections.
He emphasized the urgent need for leadership change at both the state and national levels, citing insecurity, economic decline, and widespread discontent.
Also speaking, former APC youth leader in the state, Sunusi Abdullahi Ataka, declared that the coalition is poised to dislodge the APC from power in Gombe and at the national level. “We will make APC the opposition in 2027,” he vowed.
To support this ambition, the coalition inaugurated a membership registration committee headed by former Gombe State Deputy Governor, John Lazarus Yoriyo, with retired Air Vice Marshal Adamu Fura serving as his deputy.
Other dignitaries at the meeting included representatives of former Minister of Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, Abubakar Abubakar BD, and various party leaders and grassroots mobilisers.
Several ADC supporters at the gathering expressed optimism, saying the coalition is gaining strong momentum and would be a formidable force to challenge the status quo.
