Address Kano’s Thuggery Through AI – AFRI-CIRD To Gov’t

By Hannatu Sulaiman Abba

The African Centre for Innovative Research and Development (AFRI-CIRD) has call on Kano state Government to tackle thuggery in the state with the invention of Artificial intelligence (AI).

The Executive Director AFRI-CIRD Muhammad Bello who expressed this in a press release said, Kano State lately has been experiencing a troubling increase in the incidences of thuggery known as ‘Yan Daba’, particularly perpetrated by youths, leading to a growing sense of insecurity within the state.

The alleged gruesome attacks by the thugs recently on innocent citizens in pockets of areas in the state including at ‘Dorayi’ are scary and worrisome.

“AFRI-CIRD is deeply concerned about the impact of these unfortunate activities on the safety and well-being of the citizens of Kano State and is calling on the government to take urgent action to address this pressing issue”

However, The Centre recognizes the need for a comprehensive and innovative approach to tackle the rising incidences of thuggery (Yan-–daba) in the state.

In light of this, AFRI-CIRD is advocating for the exploration of technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) to consolidate policing efforts and effectively address the rising incidence of thuggery (Yan-daba) in the state.

The utilization of artificial intelligence in policing has the potential to revolutionize law enforcement and enhance the capacity of security agencies to prevent, detect, and respond to criminal activities.

By leveraging advanced technologies, law enforcement agencies can significantly improve their ability to identify and apprehend individuals involved in thuggery (Yan-daba) and other criminal activities, thereby fostering a safer and more secure environment for all residents of Kano State.

Furthermore, AFRI-CIRD a leading organization in Nigeria’s sustainable development sector, is calling for increased collaboration between the government, private sector, and civil society organizations (CSOs) to support the integration of artificial intelligence in policing efforts.

Moreover, The Centre recognizes that the deployment of artificial intelligence in policing can enhance the security landscape of Kano State and create a safer environment for all.

This integration will not only make policing more efficient and effective but also provide opportunities for innovative solutions that can address the rising incidences of thuggery (Yan-daba) in the state.

AFRI-CIRD strongly believes that the use of artificial intelligence in policing efforts will play a significant role in achieving these goals.

In addition, the organization is urging all stakeholders to come together and advocate for the integration of artificial intelligence in policing efforts in Kano state.
