By Umar Dankano, Yola
In a determined effort to enhance healthcare delivery across Adamawa State, the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ADSPHCDA) has commenced the revitalization of 111 health facilities and the recruitment of 1,750 new staff.
This was revealed by the Executive Chairman of the Agency, Dr. Bashir Suleiman Saidu, during a media chat held in Yola on Wednesday.
He explained that the ongoing revitalization covers Primary Health Care Centres, Cottage Hospitals, and General Hospitals across the 226 wards of the state.
According to him, the move is aimed at meeting the growing demand for medical services in various communities and ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible at the grassroots level.
Dr. Saidu noted that alongside infrastructure improvements, the agency has made significant progress in national immunization campaigns, particularly against polio and malaria. He urged the public to continue supporting health workers during immunization exercises and other official engagements.
He announced that the state would soon embark on further campaigns, including the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week, the second round of National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs), and a school-based deworming exercise, all scheduled for the end of May and early June 2025.
The Chairman expressed appreciation to traditional rulers for their active role in mobilizing communities and promoting awareness about the importance of immunization, particularly in areas where cultural and religious beliefs have posed challenges.
Also speaking during the briefing, the Agency’s Director of Research and Statistics, Dr. Paul Margwa, stated that the revitalization efforts include the provision of solar-powered electricity and water supply systems to ensure 24-hour service delivery, especially in critical areas such as labour rooms.
He added that staff quarters have also been renovated, while modern equipment, essential drugs, and medical consumables have been supplied to the upgraded facilities.
Dr. Margwa called on all stakeholders to support the state government’s ongoing efforts to transform the healthcare system and improve the wellbeing of residents.
