AHBN, AFENET Establish CoP in Kano to mitigate zero dose children immunization

African Health Budget Network( AHBN) in partnership With African field Epidemiology Network ( AFENET) and support from GAVI embark on mitigation children with zero dose immunization in Kano state.

Speaking during launching of the project, AHBN focal person Dr Musa Muhammad Bello said,Kano state is among the four state( Bauchi, sokoto and Borno) that will implement the project with the aimed of CoP in targeting missed communities on zero dose with an initiative of learning hub as a tools in addressing immunization coverage through Advocacy, Budget Tracking and Accountability.

” In Nigeria 100 local government areas out of 774 has highest numbers of unvaccinated children and Kano records 15 LGAs with total percentage of 70 out of 100 overall” Musa added.

However, in 15 local government area that has highest number of zero dose children in kano , LGAs like kumbotso sumaila are among .

This project aims it to strengthen the capacity of Kano state Government through Primary Health care Management board to increase routine immunization via mobilizing Community of practice (CoP).

Musa added that, immunization coverage is a major tools in reducing infant and child mortality also preventing childhood killer diseases .

Moreover , The Project will focus on Tracking immunization funding, budget and released by the states in terms of efficient utilization, interact with Kano state government, PHCMB,community stakeholders to know what are the barriers and factors that are aligned to the vaccine hesitancy.

Speaking at the project launch, The Director General of the Kano Primary Health Care Management Board ,Dr. Muhammad Nasir Mahmud Express that Kano state government are gratitude to Community of Practice for their supports and the strengthening of collaboration with other immunization partners and state-level CSOs to improve immunization coverage as well as ensure every child in Kano state is fully immunized.

Malam salisu Yusuf who speak from Civil Society aspect encourage, the Kano State Government to always ensure the timely release of agreed funds signed in the MoU to promote budget performance, this will positively impact zero-dose children and call on the stakeholders in the Community of Practice (CoP) to promote budget tracking, accountability, and sustainability.
