Akwa Ibom Police Commissioner Engages Youth, Industry Leaders on Security, Development

The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has engaged youth leaders and industry executives in a strategic dialogue to strengthen security, foster peace, and address community concerns over youth involvement in unlawful activities.

At a meeting held on Monday, CP Azare urged youth leaders from the state’s 31 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to work closely with law enforcement by providing timely intelligence to aid crime prevention.

He warned against jungle justice and road blockades, emphasizing the need for peaceful resolution of grievances through lawful channels.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Salawudeen Ishiaka, advised young people to avoid cultism and criminal activities while contributing meaningfully to community development.

Youth representatives, including Mr. Oscar Ita, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Udung Uko Chapter, and Comrade Emem Alexander Udo, NYCN Chairman of Mkpat Enin LGA, commended the Commissioner’s proactive leadership and pledged to strengthen cooperation with the police.

In a separate meeting with industry executives, CP Azare addressed long-standing tensions between businesses and local communities.

He urged corporate leaders to invest in youth empowerment, create job opportunities, and engage local communities in decision-making processes.

He reassured business leaders of the police command’s commitment to ensuring a secure business environment.

Mr. Johnson Ogbum, General Manager of Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited, acknowledged communication gaps between companies and host communities and pledged improved engagement with youth and law enforcement.

Reaffirming its commitment to peace and security, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command called on youth groups, businesses, and residents to cooperate with law enforcement in maintaining stability.
