The Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) of the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano State, is poised to embark on strike over alleged inability of the institution’s management to improve the working and living conditions of staff and students.

The improvement of such conditions, the lecturers said, are necessary for effective research, teaching and learning.

The Chairman of the union,Dr.Aliyu Yusuf Ahmad, and its Secretary Dr Abubakar Ibrahim Tukur, announced the decision at the end of their Congress meeting on Thursday.

The union said unless the issues raised are quickly addressed,it is ready to embark on yet another strike to press home its demands.

It also expressed dismay over the leadership style of the University Administration, which it alleged, is characterized by insubordination and lack of transparency and accountability.

It accused the management of the university of failure to release the Audited Accounts of the institution for 2023 and 2024, Budget Performance Reports of the University for 20 quarters from January 2020 to December 2024 “in flagrant violation of Statute i of the KUST (Amendment Inw) 2017.”

The union also accused the management of failure to provide clarification on “bogus and unexplained expenditure contained in the Budget Performance Reports of First Quarter 2025 and Second Quarter 2025.”

Similarly, the dons expressed concern over the failure of the management to recruit required number of academic staff, especially in the newly-established departments and regularize the appointment of members of the union whom were unduly placed on contract appointments rather than permanent and pensionable appointments.

The union then criticized the management for failure to reconnect all sections of the University to regular electricity supply and settle the outstanding entitlements of members.

“To that effect, the Union calls on stakeholders and good citizens of the state to prevail on the Vice Chancellor to ensure quick resolution of the issues stated and to run the University in strict compliance with the enabling laws and with sense of patriotism in order to avoid industrial disharmony,” the union added.
